Ode to SabrinaA Poem by Coletteunconditional cat love
you are the softest of four
i adore
the way you roll
a furry ballerina
on her side
and light on her toes
the way you look at me
with a crossed eye
you meow
from a distance
sneak up, then disappear
and i ask
“what’s wrong honey?”
you come to get love
then hide under the bed
you peek out
like a baby squirrel
from the protection of a hollow
in a tree
“hi, little honey”
i say to you
“i love you”
you melt into submission
turning soft
as cotton candy
then you run
you run with no sounds
sounds quieter than a squeak
like a mouse
you scurry off
as though an avalanche
is about to engulf you
you bury yourself
under the blankets
little mound
who makes me smile
little meower
who makes me love
you carry your toys to the stuffed dog
you carry your ragged woobie
under the bed
you deposit your needs in a little bed
where i see you, and attend to you
my little child, so sweet
