One of Those PeopleA Poem by ColetteTired of people and their ridiculous assumptions
It’s all all of me All that I’ve got
and it’s not enough
It’s you none of you You...there Me...here
drowning
In the wasteland of my solitude
I’ve built this lovely nest but I’m not a bird anymore
I’m not a cat anymore
I’m human and my mind endures the greatest of pains
I am one of those people those people who are seen and missed at the same time
I’m pretty they say
they say it’s a curse...this being pretty thing
I’m disposable whether it’s ex-lovers or long-term friends... any woman who enters their lives wants me out
I don’t want them Why can’t any of them understand? I’m not what you think I am
I am underground I am earth I am kind
I am a rare and well-preserved find
Wisdom from the past fills my mortal skin Knowledge of the future threatens my immortal spirit The present is the learning I’ve learned a thousand times already
People fear but desire me synonymously
I’m nothing to be afraid of
What you should be afraid of is yours and hers and his insecurities
It’s the insecure ones the ridiculously jealous ones who will set your home on fire with you in it
And you find it flattering - their jealousy They brainwash you in some sort of sick psychosexual way to think I am a threat and that they love you intensely Intense that’s what the situation is Intense that’s who they are The Intense Ones
I am the one (one of few) who loves unconditionally
But go ahead be rid of me there will be more of the pretty ones who will hold doors open and smile and the intense ones will cut them out and the intense ones might kill you spiritually, if no other way if they can’t control you
It just doesn’t work in the end
And you’ll meander back like a runaway horse but “Don’t come near me...
You know I’d sooner put a bullet through you than not.” © 2012 ColetteAuthor's Note
