Lacuna 1

Lacuna 1

A Poem by Cole Hayley
"

This is the most experimental piece I've ever done. This is only the beginning of many other poems with the title Lacuna.

"

Lacuna 1

I can remember…

Oh dear god, why can't I remember..

It was the beach, we were on the beach.

I think there were waves crashing against the shoreline,

The ocean spray sending tiny rainbows

Along our cold pale skin.

Come on Cole, remember, just think..

The moon was out early that day, I'm pretty sure..

Yes, we could see it on the corner of the skyline,

Bashful in front of the heavy clouds,

And the clouds … The clouds…. they were laced… a black underbelly…

I can't remember if it rained,

I remember specks of water flying,

But that could of just been from the ocean.

Yes....the ocean… it was so rough that day.

You were afraid to let me go to far,

I laughed at how much you worried.

I still went over my head.

I'm so sorry.

If I knew that day was going to be our last day,

Then I would of brought down the sky.

Why can't I remember if it rained..

GOD DAMN IT….

Why can't I remember if it rained..

Rewind.

A point of letting go that may define many things. To seek on one's own and discover but not before coming close to drowning in a situation way over one's head. Then to return and remember....the many journeys and certainly the reason we held hands.

Another powerhouse from you, this takes me to the ocean my favorite place to be
I love how you made it scream at us through loss of a perfect memory, I loved the bashful moon and the underbelly and the splashes, and trying to remember the rain.

Dear Cole,

A very interesting piece with very complementary music. I enjoyed the combination.

This is a deep personal reflection on a significant even in one's life. I enjoyed the personal construction of the painting.

Very best regards,

Rick

You sure do have a talent. Yet another lovely poem, Cole. Just some errors I'd like to point out:
"could of just been" - it should be 'could have...'
"go to far," - it should be 'too far'.
"would of brought" - it should be 'would have...'

Keep writing.

You didn't go on that trip to Brighton with me and my workmates did you?
Because after a nice wine-breakfast on the train and wrapping up in the cheesy disco at Oceania, this is pretty much what it felt like to wake up.

That said, I am also getting some very interesting 'Robinson Crusoe' vibes, some almost story that seems just underneath and breaking through at times. It is a very arresting piece and I'd be interested to know what has happened to the character and what happens next.

Fabulous lack of memory. We are all dying for you to remember. Rather heartrending.
