SunA Poem by Cole HayleySun You are fire And life securer Mother to my mother and Her mother and hers You beam out of Heaven You clear the dark and The fog When it rains You negotiate with it You extend an olive branch And reach a compromise Colors across the sky When I set off And sail, snailed pace, across salt rivers You light underwater diamonds An improvised catwalk guiding me home I so gladly float - or strut - to the shore Which is now lit up A fall-streak hole, a halo Above my house Galileo was the first to properly understand Some try to eat you whole, with their hands And their eyes, some happily go blind On beach days you are provider Of fun and happiness, you are human when Light catches the splashes of playing kids A phantom of security and warmth Standing right beside them; Icebergs were a kilometrer out You made them melt Too much has been written about you But in my writings too little has; Without you there would be no dogberries No songs, no months, no children, no women You are fire and life securer Mother to my mother and her mother and hers © 2017 Cole HayleyAuthor's Note
