Update / Soup of Eels

Update / Soup of Eels

A Poem by Cole Hayley
"

it's about nostalgia

"
I keep on trying to come back to you guys,
Maybe this time I'll actually stick around for a while.
This site is good for me.
Anyways, been writing a bunch lately, mostly nonsense.
I got hundreds of pieces stockpiled.
Should I post one a day?
Send me some RR's, I'll try to review something.
Send me a inbox, let's chat.

Anyways,
Heres something I wrote in 5 minutes.

Soup of Eels

You should be happy
Happier
Happy like a pig in s h i t
Why weren't you at the movie?
I got caught up in traffic,
After I saw you I lost my breath
Didn't know anything about wrath
But my steering wheel gave me pins and needles
I gripped it hard and broke my nails
I gave you my speel on the whales
We tried the chef's soup of eels
Like slicking electrical wires down our throats
Wagging their bodies in a tug of war with our stomachs
It's a live world out there
A hundred restaurants and all of our friends apartments,
Get to know the spaces where we remember faces best
Like on the couch watching Breaking Bad
Or out to supper with your Dad
Or the Neanderthal tied to the deck
Barking at the cats

They say
You should be happy
You should write poetry
Poetry about something happy
Poetry about something
Not what you've been writing
That nonsense
Why are you sad
The summer is back
You miserable sack
You've never been so bad
What's happened?

What's happened since i've been gone?

Love the opening. To be fair the overall composition is great, but I do love the bluntness of the open and close most.

I like it. Stream of consciousness, reflection, down to earth, the nostalgia is palpable. Happiness is best desired and never achieved. Welcome back, been meaning to get on here more myself.

Glad you are here, Cole. We're not a bad bunch to socialize with I won first place in a short poetry contest today, so my ego was stroked and I have to admit, it felt good. Does that make me a wanton hussy? So, they want happy poetry, huh? That's a bummer to hear, because if you are like me, misery can be such a powerful muse. Let them have happily ever after stories and tales of whales, let us stick to the angst of life.
