A Poem by Cole Hayley
"

alt title: "the majority share of half"

"
5.
no matter where i should be
no matter the thing i should attend to
half of my mind, the younger half,
is at home with you

everything anybody has ever said to me has come true
kill your darlings, honey
you killed me a thousand times
you gave me a thousand warnings

Might be the one I'm tripping around the most trying to grapple with it. Half the mind is young, half the mind is older. Almost seems like a looking back upon life, all those times we didn't listen to someone's advice that we didn't want or didn't believe had any real relevance. Except, sometimes they seem to have all come true. And listening we may have saved ourselves a few of those killings. Young half looking back with nostalgia, old half wondering what could have been. Hmm. I'm going to savor this one.

Beautiful piece..
I like how you say that one half of your mind is younger than the other... maybe because you have new feelings which you're still getting used to?
Keep up the good work.

A state of mind in which the younger manages the older ... is indeed rare ... and is indicative of the concerns and love the younger brings ... with mother ... to address the pioneering thinking of the older. Its like Kahlua liqueur ... a discerning taste.

Honest and direct words my friend.
"kill your darlings, honey
you killed me a thousand times
you gave me a thousand warnings"
The above lines. Solid lines above. Thank you Cole for sharing the excellent poetry.

"half of my mind, the younger half,
is at home with you"

This hits my heart. I've seen warnings, and I've seen right past them. It's killed me a thousand times, maybe even more. But, I wonder where it is you are, if not here.

the idea of having a younger half of your mind is very intriguing and as Ana said, it leaves the reader with an aftertaste of thoughts. short, but not too sweet, almost makes me think of a drunk person standing up on a table at a bar proclaiming his love for another.
