Freeze-Frame / The Right Millisecond

Freeze-Frame / The Right Millisecond

A Poem by Cole Hayley

We can gargle our smiles

And sit with our heads alit

Skulls boosted by

August air

We are lifted now

*

The summer is on a gurney;

The plastic wheels start to

Melt and stick to the floor

Men try to roll out the cold

Men try to paint the leafs

No one is fooled

We are in for another

Year of August heat

*

Freeze-frame; I screen capped

A video to a moment where

We both smiled

Sadness paused as Time’s

Jurisdiction was defiled

A crying face stopped at

The right millisecond

Appears to laugh

And you haven’t laughed

In a while
