Goodnight, Rebecca

Goodnight, Rebecca

A Poem by Cole Hayley

Goodnight, Rebecca
The night-bus, two hours behind
Hauls contrails, a phantom-asphalt
Turned dirty headed. It pulls up, stops,
Nods its head, and apologizes about the time.
Looking, its aisles heavy-eyed, squirming, bent.
Its seats, squashed by the overweight cliental
Asleep on their backs. I could already tell
This wasn’t my money well spent.

The night ... after a long tiring day ... brings all manner of expression to our feelings. It creates reminiscences, philosophizes, grows weary and is sad ... what was possible ... is today the squashed seats on buses that are late. Fortunately such moods can be cured by beer. Nice one Cole.

Lovely Cole you created a short story here and poignant one too after a good visit.

sounds like the person going home after seeing his love, having to wait til 4 am for the bus to arrive, and this is the type of journey he must make to see her because she's so worth it...i know i'm probably totally off, but i like the imagery in this poem.

but does it get you to where you want to be? That is the real value of the ride and fare. you give such a strong impression of the seats and the ride , what a great write Cole.
