10th Grade Geometry

10th Grade Geometry

A Poem by Cole Hayley
"

Is a circle really a circle?

"

10th Grade Geometry

And it was for quite sometime

that I questioned if a circle

was really a circle.

All on good authority,

        of course.

Triangles, I knew they

were not real. 180 degrees…

Yeah PLEASE!

Hexagon -- it had "hex" in it.

It made me think of witches.

Witches are not real.

Square -- squares are boring.

Boredom is not real.

Rectangle. Come on.

Parallelogram -- parallelogram

now that is fun to say over and over

again.

… fun is not real

Trapezoid… Trapezoid reminds me of

giant space robots.

They are not real as well.

Pentagon. Sounds a lot like pentagram

if you take out the "gon" and add on

the "ram".

it reminds me of the devil.

the devil is not real

So, it is my theory,

wait, I mean…

it is my hypothesis

that a circle is not

really a circle.

Because a circle cannot be real.

Spheres on the other hand --

how stunning...

Great job, Cole. I admire how you were able to transition into childhood curiosity. This poem has a lot of ambiguity, and I think it is interesting conjoining mathematics with poetry. Great job.

I don't suppose that a circle was ever real at any time in the world. We wished and hoped that it would be. Its only on these occasions that we refer to something as real because we want more people to believe it. I guess if its not then a sphere is good.

I think you found an unique way of combining math and poetry. Good work.

i like the way you go through the steps of the method to come up with with theorems. interesting that there can be poetry in geometry. great job.

A very interesting piece, and quite inspiring as well. Very nicely done.

The sun appears to be a sphere, planets spheres, but are they real? They feel real , they look real, magnified to the most are more tiny invisible spheres of energy matter not really a part of each other but somehow sticking close enough to each other to make a "solid" material , so is that material real?

Inspired my friend, lovely write , the circle of life is real though the sphere is kinda romantic. Love this take on Geometry.
