Leucosia

Leucosia

A Poem by Cole Hayley
"

The world is splitting open at my feet, part two.

"

Leucosia

Her lure is empty, a siren ousted

on a fruitless beach. Mid-winter,

the howling of the solstice aches

in her marrow. I was sent by the

lab. To pick the creature up:

in my arms. To study,

                               to watch it decay.

The over-wash of eyes, it suddenly

reminded me of a willow. Stuck

behind a wooden fence. Cold-blue

mountains above and larks

humming. The loneliness

of that blank valley, rippled

across a plain of pestilence.

The moist night-air, crackling

dawn. Barren. In cold-blue eyes.

Her eyes.

The body was covered in lacerations.

over-saturated in salt.

Poor thing,

                                      I thought out loud. I

             wish I could of saved

it.

I took it back to the

lab. To study---

I cut it open

with a cold-grey knife.

Cleft apart, bit by bit.

I saw the willows,

bend----

I saw it spit

out such

blood.

In plain

sight,

--- hunched over

 in flakes of

skin, so

forgotten.

Anaesthesia-soaked

// reflections of  a decomposing

verve, plushed in her scales.

Extraction-then expulsion.

The siren was flushed

out the back alley, in the

trash can. My mind melted,

like hot plastic. Sticky

residue. It waited for her

to come back to life.

The rocky shores, have

come forth to land. My shipwreck

is abased, and conscience afloat.

The siren held my hand, my heart,

but just as her dead caracas fell,

I, myself, drowned.

It takes a long time, sometimes ages, for life to move from one point of fixation to another. When it was here we enjoyed it, when it moves on, we move on with it, relying on its own fond references to what is important. On the beach the fish moved on as amphibian onto land and went on to become the deer. It became a new world of experiences.

Our natures and the universe watch the work and bring themselves to move it at the required time. When that happens we bring our hands to the wheel and drive it. It relies on us for that.

A amazing poem my Poet friend. I like the mystery and the use of the sea. Video added to the strength of the poem. The artwork was very good. I like the directness of the thoughts and how you led the reader to a very good ending. No weakness in the outstanding poetry.

Your imagery cannot be matched. I love that you only underlined 'cold-blue/grey' giving it a more important feel. Magnificent job, Cole!
