Feminine Speech

Feminine Speech

A Poem by Cole Hayley
"

The World Is Splitting Open At My Feet, Part One.

"

Feminine Speech

Feminine speech.

Stork, covered in mulberry

wine. The stories you sang

at the children's bedside.

I smiled through the wall.

Take me away tonight

with the nursery rhymes

and quaggy sentences.

Censure set abroad, by your

feminine speech.

You slogged with the day-time,

and came home so mirthful.

Warming milk

and seaming the unweaving

fabric. My wool vest.

Snow bathed the house

during the night-time.

You snuck in the bed

along the substance-less

midnight.

The children, sedated and fed.

The pages through

the index. All stupefied

and you twirled their hair

until hush.

You kissed my face

and sunk underneath my bones.

From there to wherever,

slept with the haze of stars

Silently.

Author's Note

Cole Hayley
I'm back with eight new poems. I wanted to try a diffrent style then my last booklet "Fuel and Pollen". In the spread between that and this I've been reading alot of Plath, so I felt obligated to dedicate this booklet to her.

This booklet is not a light booklet, this poem is only the start truly. I felt like this had to go first, the others are far to dark.

The booklets is entitled "The World Is Splitting Open At My Feet", a direct quote from Plath herself.

This is one of my favorites of yours so far; it is kind of a refreshing change from what else of yours I've read. It's cozy and affectionate and down-to-earth. It reminds me a bit of Plath, when she was in a good mood. I feel like you used a little more restraint than usual maybe with the metaphors and the imagery, so this poem feels more well-balanced in that respect and I will def. remember it.

On a side note, I think it's a cool idea that you're doing like a poetry collection, but why not write this as a book and have each new poem be a chapter then? I've been reading backwards in your stuff and I didn't realize all the recent poems were part of a collection til just now lol.

Anyways, beautiful one.

Your poem had the sound of snow flakes falling on the ground. Oh yes, it brought all my attention to one place. Thanks, you're an artist.
