papers on the floor

papers on the floor

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson

damn

there are pap

ers of the floor

i am

smashed too

smashed to

argue with the

words

that wink at

me from

be

neath the

feet of

my

desk

the feet of me

they tell me i

am old

and just not cut

out for

it any

more

i want to

tell

them off

give them

what

for

but i can

not

expell the shards of

glass

hidden in

my gums

between my teeth

it hurts to speak

nowadays

it hurts to breathe

Author's Note

Daniel Atkinson
I tried to make it feel drunk. Changed the structure around and all that.
