in the wheat fields

in the wheat fields

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson
"

an old farmer's wistful fiction.

"
someday i hope to find you
in the wheat fields amongst the stalks
sleeping with my straw hat
laid kinda crooked over your eyes.
i hope to lean down real quiet
and give you a lip hug,
which is what we'd like to call it.

and my eyes will sigh open
as i realize, with an iron spear to my heart,
that i'm kissing your moss-choked headstone.

Aw...what a touching twist. At first this seemed to be about future love, and then I realized it was in the past. I thought the first stanza was especially incredible--loved the second line. For some reason I found the first line in the second stanza a little strange. Why would his eyes be opening 'slyly'?

lip hug; I like it.

I try to avoid reviewing poetry, but I felt every syllable of this piece.

Good luck in the future.

The twist is incredible. I actually started to cry. It's a truly beautiful poem.
