the lackadaisical nomad

the lackadaisical nomad

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson
"

a man i saw today leaving a coffee shop. he was whistling.

"
there's a man across the street,
walking real casually
past the coffee shops and consignment stores,
hands stuffed in the pockets
of his black track jacket,
and he's whistling.

i watch him from the other side,
this lackadaisical nomad,
all sunshine and songbirds.
he's whistling his persona
in this transient fiction,
past his rippling reflections
in the shop windows,
all the while believing them to be
shifting images in god's great eye--
just one more happy creation.

The subject is a man I saw leaving a coffee shop across the street earlier today. He was whistling and I figured he must have had a damn good reason to. Here it is.

I love this so much! I akways like to make up little back stories to go with the people I see in my everyday life. Like the kid on the bus cramming hard this morning, I decided he'd been up all night text -fighting with his girlfriend over why he didn't call her. Any way, I'm now off topic -.- the point is, this is really well written and I think it is amazing!

a beautiful little vignette. imagery is spot-on.
i hope his reason was half as good as the one you gave him.

To be honest, this was better than half the poems we study in English class. Bravo!

Interesting, how you can build a poem around a stranger and let someone else feel him too. This flows well

I like it :) It's a wonderful thing, being so blissful. Maybe his reason was that it was 75 degrees and sunny.
