ecstasy

ecstasy

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson

we are tall we are terrible
we are scarred & otherwise marked
we writhe naked in ecstasy of peace
in nests of new grass
replete in jagged youth
in love
Death lusting for us
blood in its eyes.

Although I'm only 24, this poem makes me long for my youth (even though I'm still very young haha). You've captured both the fleeting nature of youth and the ever-present promise of death in such few words. Though, after rereading it a few times, I feel this can signify not just a young person's mortality, but a romantic relationship. This is beautiful.
