As We Kiss, We Consume

As We Kiss, We Consume

A Poem by Coldwind

The words haunt me

Read years ago

But never true until I met you

Now ever breath is measured

By the distance that separates us

Nothing has ever been so poisonous

As my decaying heart

Wasting away inside my breast

Nothing I can do

Except clutch your image close

Demons inside me whisper hateful things

And I cry into empty space

Wondering when I will feel you next to me

And still the poison spreads

Eating away my reason

Leaving nothing behind

Strange, but the hollow echo of your voice

Is a pain I cannot bare to part with
