Highway Lights

Highway Lights

A Poem by Coldwind

Life and death

A black highway at night.

Inquisitive, innocent,

You step upon the road.

The light is so bright

Beckon, fascinate,

"Go towards the light"

Celestial light.

But time hits hard.

You scattered and fall

The windshield wipers click

Wiping the last traces of your life

Away.

The lazy gray birds of memory

Pick your image from the ground.

And time rolls on.

Your only legacy

Is the blood on the windshield,

And another beckoning voice

Behind the light.

I agree with the other reviewer... inspirational, make me want to drive safer. Strong imagery and great metaphors:

"The windshield wipers click

Wiping the last traces of your life

Away.

The lazy gray birds of memory

Pick your image from the ground."

Very nicely written. Keep on creating!
