Highway Flower

Highway Flower

A Poem by Coldwind

Pick me out of the gutter

Take me anywhere

Anywhere.

My  roots are shallow

And I long to be transplanted

Somewhere

Where it doesn't rain so much.

Even a flower

Can get sick of rain.

Take me with you

I want to feel the sun on my face

I would hate to wilt and die,

Never knowing anything but rain

And never knowing what it was like

To bloom.

Oh, I love this so much... Great phrasing... I love the last break off into,
"to bloom"
Great... Emotive.
Ah, just a quick edit to my review... I simply had to read your poem over because I loved it so much and discovered that perhaps instead of 'never know what it WAS like to bloom', you would replace 'was' with 'it', but that is all. :) Still in love with this work.

A nice little personification poem. My favorite part is your beginning,

"Pick me out of the gutter

Take me anywhere

Anywhere."

For the rest, it reminds me of how difficult it is for me to resist 'over-reaching' or over writing and let the poem be and breathe. This is a good start.

Have you ever thought of changing the point of view where you are the speaker, feeling for the flower? I wonder how that would change the color of the poem? Just a thought...

Be Well,
