The Tear that Wants to FallA Poem by Colby
Cries across an open room Voices fading together A hundred part symphony The players unaware of their role
He sits alone in the center of it all Silent Watching Listening Drinking in the moment He loves and hates it The happiness all around him Hides the pain inside
Swallowing the lump in his throat he scans the room for the hundredth time Searching for something Unsure of what it is Just an answer A beacon of hope
Trying to dull the pain It only makes it burn He fights back the tear that wants to fall
He takes a sip of the water in his hand Shoves the uneaten food away
He stands and starts to walk Pulls the cigarettes from his coat pocket As he grabs a match he thinks better of it. Throws them in the trash He is done running Done hiding Done pretending
The lump comes back He takes a deep breath as the crisp breeze hits his face With a smile he steps into the street © 2008 Colby |
