Dark Memory

Dark Memory

A Poem by Colby

Splashes of color fade to gray

as the sun slips behind forboding clouds

darkness approaches

bringing a new ominous beauty

A sudden wave rushes over her

A horrible and familiar presence

Painful memories jerk her to reality

She starts to run

Looks in horror

Longing for escape

Unsure where she is going

Searching for a way out

The first drops mist her face

as she moves for the trees

She trips in the grass

bare feet slipping in the loose soil

she lies face down in the muddy field

The heavens unleash their wrath

Her cries are drowned

by thunder and lightning

Rain pours down her face

disguising her tears

She lifts her head

Eyes wide with fear

Searching in desperation

For a glimmer of hope

She tries to stand

With a look over her shoulder

She sinks back to the ground

curls up like a child

She holds her breath

as the shadow falls over her

She closes her eyes

ooo this is scary! I can feel her panic, her fear, her cocooning trying to block out the monster. I like how you didn't really say what the shadow is that falls over her. This way more people can relate to it, the shadow becomes whatever monster the reader has feared in their own life. Kudos!!
