A Poem by Colby
"

Did very little editing from the scribbles that began in my work notepad. This is just me letting it flow for the first in a long time...it's nice to write something again.

"

Years gone by

Flowers bloom

Then fade

Death

He feels it all around him

As he walks the fields he once called home

All color gone

Former majesty decayed

A dark haze is all that remains

His only solace the silence

This lonely road has brought him back here

In search of something he will never find

Straining to hear the sound of the footsteps
that will bring his redemption

Once again the vast emptiness greets him

The one constant he has left

His worn boots stir up the ashes of the past

And reminds him of the fear he once felt

When the flames of loss still burned bright

With the cold numb that brings understanding
he leaves the tatters of this life behind

And the familiar nothing welcomes him home

You have such a way with words honey...this is great! Love the boots stirring up ashes of the past line. This speaks with a resigned wisdom. I read in it a bittersweet knowledge of the passing of youth and am reminded of the quote "you can't go home again". It's true. We change and our lens changes and we can never see the same again, but atop the ashes we build and we remember and carry it inside us and make a new home. Wonderful words from a wonderful writer here! So glad you are writing again or you wrote again...no pressure! :)
