The Joy of Life

The Joy of Life

A Poem by Colby

Time unfolds,
People fall around me,
Until I’m the last one standing,
Squinting to see light,
But it’s clear as day,
Though I cannot see it,
That there won’t be light,
Shed on these drapes,

The day is killed,
The day is sunk
The day is down for me to confront,

The people around me watch in terror,
As I charge through it,

*Unprepared*

The people around me,
Are acting as such:
Pale,
Dead,
Broken,
Untouched,

If they’d open their eyes,
Then they would see,

The spark of happiness,
The joy,
The glee,

But instead they ponder,
As though not awake,

Sinking,
Dying,
In this earthquake,

Then they jump up and scream at the top of their lungs,
They’re dead,
They’re Sad,
Their broken,
They’re done,

They wander along,
In a helpless rage,
Not seeing the light upon the stage:
The stage of life,
The joy,
The glee,
If they would cheer up…

*Then I would see*

Very expressive. Can't believe you are so young. It seems that people do tend to miss "the light upon the stage". Very astute observation for such a young person. Young person, old soul. Nicely done.
