You Wouldn't Even Dance

You Wouldn't Even Dance

A Poem by Colby

Another dark and lonely night beneath the stars,
Now more than ever the depression sets in,
Sitting here by myself counting the scars,
And the alcohol is my only friend,
My love for you makes me weak,
And the liquor makes me strong,
If I could only hear you speak,
Maybe then the heartache would be gone,
Pop a pill, take a shot,
Temporary escape from the pain,
Do you know you're all I got?
A day with you is greater than an abundance of fortune or fame,
Hard liquor and soft songs,
But it still doesn't erase the fact that you're gone.
What did I do wrong?
Where did I slip up?
Was all that I did still not enough?
I want to do so much more,
But you won't give me the chance,
Its like if I played all the right songs,
You wouldn't even dance.

What a truly brilliant poem! Your emotions lay down the groundwork and feelings take over the rest. Your entire poem speaks volumes so perfectly. Your last few lines tie in the title and really drop the bomb....
"But you won't give me the chance,
Its like if I played all the right songs,
You wouldn't even dance. "

...Very clever ending. This is so very well written.
