Dreams

Every moment
I close my eyes
I pull back the lids
And dig into my mind
I’m always dreaming
Of spaceships at night
Infinite sunrises where we never have to go
In the drive through with my dad and brother
A sickly hovering ghost
A restaurant that specializes in bratwursts
Fields full of kids that push each other down to meet the worms
And football fields that are empty and abandoned till zombies come alive
Endless crowds and misshapen sunset clouds
Cars in long desert drives
The sky was upside down
On a mission to somewhere
Tv stares

Majestic orange drop offs
To every secret theme park street
And every water slide
Vacations and dinosaurs reflecting in spheres
Sun with a smile crashing onto earth
Dark restaurants with collections of vintage cowboy boots
And glaring people
Balloon rooms and vampires in grocery stores
Stumbling on jeweled rope
Hating me cause I wanted to eat something else
Finding a friend in a mall
Torn apart, shirts all over
Sandman made me laugh when I was little
Saw his silhouette from the car, smiling hard
Heart sunk when they tried for the door handle
Forgetting everything I’ve packed, but the candles
The earth stretches like a coaster and loops
Laughing, dimples
Always making me miss you

Author's Note

A bit of a long one, but I’ve never been able to capture my dreams like I did here. I’m not bragging, lol, but dreams are very important to me and inspire so many poems, that I was pretty pleased with how this came out. Thank you for reading!

a surprise ending...this moves along like a Stephen King short story...like a short version of the Stand...
and then suddenly it is a love story from an eerie dream...I like "vacations and dinosaurs reflecting" and thought of vacations with dinosaurs....not so relaxing.

and the vampires in grocery stores...no wonder they are always out of Count Chockula.....

Dreams are important, and many times my poem reflect my dreams (if I remember them)....it seems that your dreams are on the negative side...eating disgusting food, the sky is upside down, vacations and dinosaurs, zombies and football fields and much more haunting elements.... until the end we earth is like a coaster, laughing dimples,and missing your love....Nice work Cat!

This one is right in my wheelhouse. So many of the scenes and situations you described I could relate to or have imagined in the past or something like them. Dreams are funny like that, waking to ask...what was that or having one of those dreams that feels so real it is disappointing when you wake. Satellites in sundresses or tricycles riding on 3-legged tree branches...hey you never know but in the end, when the sun rises and I sit on the edge of the mattress thinking back on the dream my thoughts always go to, I wish I could have shared it with you. Really cool. I like the visions that this brings to mind. Bravo!!!
