Thickest Skin I Never Had

My bones click when I stand
Like a skeleton, like a robot
Hand in hand in hand
I’m lost again in the nighttime neighborhood
These are the cards I’ve been dealt
Might as well deal with them myself

I wish I had skin
As thick as my walls
I took a moment and took the win
Is anybody-
Will anybody ever listen?

Some people just don't notice us or listen to us... We all wish at some point that we had thicker skin, more gut to be able to fight back, stand up for ourselves... this just reminded me of bullying in school, in my elementary.... there were a few with thin skin who suffered because it was if they only existed to be bullied... as adults we can be scapegoats to ugly behavior....and it's always difficult to deal with the cards you've been dealt. Powerful poem Cat.

This piece reminds me of the hardships we endure, the success we are granted, and when we get this success we wish people would notice and congratulate us, yet we wished we had thicker skin and not care about what others would say. Thanks for sharing!
