Billboards shake and break
I slept on the stairs
And went to sleep so I could wake
I wanted to drive through the clouds
Go about the theme park everyone was talking about
Do you hear me now?
I’ll make it there somehow
You’ll find out
Is it more inspirational to be happy
Or to be bruised?
Was I your royalty
Or was I used?
I see you in a whole new reel film now
I thought I’d always remember my coldest winter and not have a cow
I think being bruised conjures up more writing for the poet, since it seems more difficult for
us to write about happy stuff.
and those Billboards that shake and break, could they be leading us into heartbreak...just so that we can fill in the lines on them?
I have heard that Taylor Swift gets into relationships to break up then write songs about them.
Makes me wonder if I have done that same thing to write poems.
Is there room on those stairs for another?

A cement pillow to dream about a great theme park in the sky, it's a terrific image. Wouldn't it be great if we knew what inspiration happiness might offer, they tell me that the sunset in Sarajevo is pretty nice too, but I'm not going to know that either. Thank you for this offering of words.
One has to question if we create the dark to be inspired and the answer is yes, many do but they always end up in the grave sooner or later. Being someone that crawled out of the dark of another many years ago it is not a place I would choose to be in but it has provided a lot of poetry and still does but I choose to live in the light and would never create the darkness myself. That’s a ride we don’t always walk away from alive. Life has a way of providing muses. Interesting write and something we should be asking ourselves in these writing endeavors and maybe reevaluate our musings.

I would prefer to be happy than to be bruised; however, someone has hurt you very badly, and you are alone, thinking with bits of anger inside that you can get back at that person with your words..."I see you in a whole new reel film now"....Which you couldn't see prior. You were definitely used, by the tone of this poem. (my read!) ; a very sad but strong piece.
Best, B

Thank you so, so much for the kind review! I appreciate it endlessly (:
It is far easier to write about negative feelings and outcomes than happy ones. I really don't know why, but that's the way it is. Bruises take time to heal and they come in a variety of colours. Most of them hurt. Reading your poem Cat, I took a bit of a detour.

🐱💙My biggest writing inspirations are Lorde, Gabbie Hanna, and Phoebe Bridgers. If you like any of them feel free to talk to me about it! Never be afraid to go on tangents to talk abou.. more..
