Nobody finds themselves until they look into the abyss, and only the dead die with no scars… they were never alive in the first place. Life is a fist fight… you just have to keep dropping bombs.
That review of my piece, “Separation Anxiety,” was beautiful btw.

This is where love of self comes in...in between thinking of life vs. death (suicide)...too scared to do anything rash because of self love...or the fear pops in.. sadness too; this is so difficult to wrestle with....at least for me.
great topic for discussion!

Thank you so, so much for the review. It was spot on and I appreciate it endlessly.
I guess if we can still be afraid it shows we still care, and still think that we have something worth protecting and keeping, whereas, if we are past caring, then life has become almost meaningless to us. A thought-provoking write!
This is interesting. Never thought that someone would want to ever feel afraid but I guess that's when happens when you contemplate life and death, feeling nothing within. It's particularly interesting when you wrote "too self centered to end it", I never thought about it like that, that people would be selfish to not end their life... very interesting write!
Once a long time ago when I was about 10 years old and watching a movie with my mother...I believe i was African Queen.
I was very upset because the man on the boat was dying he had no more drugs (drug addict) and was going to commit suicide... I was so upset and I talked to my mother about it. Her response was "he is going to die either way." Not sure why your little poem brought back that memory... Then, she said...and perhaps this was later and, I was a bit older.. that committing suicide was a cowards way out... Strong words..which were so wise..
Enjoyed your poem,
Lisa, now 7:20am in Spain

You are most welcome...

that in between state of mind and heart....
I was there once, understood it...at least looking back, I think perhaps
I understood something....but sure felt a lot...maybe sometimes I wish I could be afraid again, as well.

This one has the sound of depression. Depressed people may not want to die, but they end it because they can't stand the pain anymore. The speaker here drew back from the abyss before it was too late. Call it self centered if you like, but to me it's simply choosing life.
