Second And A Millionth Best

Second And A Millionth Best

A Poem by Vertigo Cat1111
"

And I'll shed no tears, I'll only keep on waiting, if no one cheers, well, I can keep on waiting. -Eden Espinosa

"
I see red
And I've rose the dead
Still, they don't look this way

Everyone gets what they want
Without a question of my heart
Watch them celebrate
And relcuntantly watch my heart fill with resentment and hate

Their glory never left you alone
Everything in your life was always their own
And so you wrote it in burnt orange bones
'One day, world,
You'll think of me
You'll thank me'

Tired of being second best
Tired of being told to put my voice to rest
I'm second best
But never once got a second chance

Everyone's the protangonist but me
So I'll spread my forgotten wings
Watch the overachiever overlooked bleed

The others with physical art
They're all blessed

Primped and dress, to go get another award

And by the end of the day
I've convinced myself I don't deserve it

You're a mess
Last to be guessed
And you're so pressed

You got a queen and a castle
I got a controversy and no mercy

I'm the anthem
I leave them laughing and they forget me
The very next day

You feel the villain in you bubble up
Black bubbles about to burst
Ready to steal the trophies they stole from you first

First place

Then you remember

You're second and a millionth best
You just need some rest
To take away the edge of the anger
To make it ache less
Maybe you should get some rest.

When we are tired our brain runs root. That's what I felt here Colacat. It's not a pleasant feeling to think you are being ignored. Second best is better than third best but to think you are millionth, well that is way on down, a long way down. I have to say that life can be tough at times. I don't think any of us get what we want easily. We all feel like you do from time to time. Good to read you again.

Thank you so much! I loved the review and the wisdom in each one. Thank you for reading!
In life, one doesn’t always have to be the best!our world is competitive and all try to win the prize, but it’s okay to millionth best too. There is much self damning in this piece, but in the end one realizes a bit of slumber may help the pain. Excellent!

you're very welcome!
sometimes I think it is best not to be the protagonist...if we do things to get credit, are those actions really from the heart?
I like how this poem raises questions about self, ego, attention etc.

Thank you so much! And yes, sometimes it's best to not always be the protagonist!
