I have so much poetry to post! It's just hard when you get ideas and then you have to put the poem together and see what fits and what's better kept for another poem. I actually don't think I've ever seen a firefly before, but I'd like to! Also, this poem might be edited later on. I just feel like it's missing something?

You share my love of fireflies Colacat. I have not witnessed them in the flesh so to speak, only ever having seen them on TV programmes about wild life. They are totally captivating. Magical in their uplifting quality and breath taking in their bountiful beauty. How I wish we had them on this side of the pond.
This poem also reminded me that should we act in haste, we will repent at leisure. I wonder just how many people really understand that? Our emotions can lead us into a dangerous jungle. Once in there we can lose our way.
Love the imagery these lines gave me and I pondered on the predicament here.

Thank you so much! Yes, I love fireflies and would one day love to see them in person.
I saw a firefly for the fist time only two years ago, sitting on the back porch of an aunts house in Iowa. At first I shout I was seeing things, then another and another. Breathtaking and made me smile. A wonderful piece reflecting on the beauty and disaster of life, the things we can't help but to love and the things we miss when they are gone. Great description, I remember running around on summer nights. It's a thing.

the imagery in the poem is insanely beautiful! every part was breathtaking to read!
"I need to apologize
Left behind you and your family
For some outdated memories
I've gotta say sorry
I wasn't planning on just abandoning everybody"
this is so pure and relatable, I love it.

we should always weigh our
plans carefully, when we act on
on our raw emotions were more
apt to make mistakes made in
hasty reactions to people and
things,
we call them lightning bugs
in KY.but firefly is a more poetic
sound in poetry;they are beautiful
to watch for sure..nice work Colacat

Thank you so much! Lightning bugs is actually a very cool name, too.
Wooow....This is an absolutely wonderful poem, dear!!! I felt like I was hearing the lines from a movie where the girl goes away to change her life. Very good imaginary and words to pondered specially about having control of our emotions. And I guess my love for fireflies makes me love even more.
Well done from me!!!
Stay happy.

I don't know a lot of Lorde songs, but there is one I've listened to a lot called Ribs, and what I loved about it was its depth opened to me by her simple words, you know, the gaps. I really like this poem of yours for the same reason.
"You don't give me butterflies
You give me fireflies
And isn't that so much brighter, love?
Isn't that so much brighter?" - I smiled when I read this, which I did twice, not just for the poetry of your words but also for the imagery of fireflies in your stomach, is how I took it.
I like how the rhyming words are placed about this poem to remind me that this isn't just poetry or a look into your history and your present feelings, but it's also a song.
"It was a half baked nothing plan
Just comfort's sake in the sand." - Another line I read twice. It's read like 'half-baked comfort food in the sand' that was a plan. I liked it.
All of it, the whole poem. I vote for not editing it later on. If your readers got what you wanted, you achieved your objective, if not I'd liked to know what else you were thinking. I can relate to your note. I edit my poems like crazy lol.

My pleasure. I'm going to listen to that song again myself lol.
I've seen many fireflies; they usually sparkle in August where I live. They flash in the darkness of night for just a second, but if there are many, it reminds me of a light show. Promised love, left behind but apologies do abound, even if time has passed. Good or bad idea??
Nice theme and strong words to show the attitude and the the wrongs that need to be righted.
Best, B.

Thank you so so much again! Your compliments and reviews mean the world to me. (:
Fireflies are pretty amazing....they light the way for others, but i wonder if they see very well themselves.
I have broken away from good relationships to chase fireflies...
but often when I caught them, the light went out...and I remember what I left with much regret.
I like how this poem hums along, with the rhythm and rhyme and then suddenly that stops and it gets chaotic for a few lines, and then gets back into rhythm...much like life when we are in and out of love.

Sometimes second chances don’t work out. Sometimes we make choices that are not what we should have done. Live and learn. No one is perfect but we definitely have to live with our choices
