Roots

Roots

A Poem by Vertigo Cat1111

I fell for you something like the rain fell into the parched dirt.
You coldly sank deep into my roots
You reinvograted me
And guided me to grow.

You helped me stretch tall like a sunflower in sunlight
Reaching for you
But I never have
Quite enough

I wilted when you left
Endless, cold eventide
No stars shone as blazed and illuminated bright as you
I began to fall in on myself and rot like those abandoned houses we dwelled inside

I decided to wait for you
And not go just yet
The cracks in the window
The light shining through
Told me the sun didn't eternally set

You returned

After being apart for so long
We know what we need now
Inconsist dependency and love isn't something we allow

Come heat, fire, rain, hail and snow
Fear, anger and blame
And the drama-hungry monsters waiting down below
This time I'll hold your hand too
So you too can grow

My roots stretched stronger than ever
Spreading through the ancient earth and old dirt
Drinking in the rising tide

The rain came back to tell me
You'd never leave my side

Author's Note

Vertigo Cat1111
My best poetry comes in the middle of the night, as most poets' art does! I have quite a few poems I like that I've written recently, but LA Devotee, my story is my main passion. It'd mean 10x more to me if anyone were to check that out, but if not, thank you for checking this out!

Your use of metaphor here is intelligent. There are also some fine lines. I like how the roots reach out to each other and second chances are there to be taken. You remember well how it feels to be without the other half and whether it is worth putting in the effort. Good job Colacat.

I've been reading some of your writing recently and I like how you seem to have a dark tone mixed in with feelings of love (I'm sorry if I'm wrong, I actually don't read often) it's not something I ever found myself liking, but you make it interesting. I feel that you give off the same message, but find new ways to execute it. "Roots" describing it with the growth and death of a sunflower and "Media" using what we distract ourselves to be the root of the problem. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm just rambling but I do like your approach to writing. Keep it up.

I love the metaphor of roots trees growing together here !
I heard once that trees can spread the roots under ground and touch other trees roots by choice and feelings how sweet if this is true
I must investigate this sounds like underground love ❤️
Loved your poem !

Thank you so so much! I'm so happy you like it and thank you for such a kind and sweet review!
What an imaginative expression of the glory of second chances...like Glenn Close said in "The Natural"
"I think we have two lives, the one we learn from and the one we live with after that"---
Sinking deep into another's roots...what a lovely way to go.

Thank you so much! You always leave such kind and inspiring reviews.
Expressed so well, start to finish, winding words about your emotions, hopes and patience. You have a way of pleading yet - with fine subtlety and elegance! Thank you for sharing, Colacat.

You're more than welcome. Will certainly come back and read more of your writing. :)
I hear you ... thank you for asking and sharing that bit about yourself .. with self imposed time limits i do tend, like many, to shy away from stories .. choosing rather to read more in variety .. but as soon as i read this one i will check out your story Colacat! ;)
well done .. thoroughly took in the opening lines .. that parched earth stuck with me .. felt that cold rain .. the invigoration ... i think this is very fine work with the metaphor and you stuck with it to the end ... such an eternal love story .. told, for me, in a fresh new way ... i love happy endings and so love how through the pain and suffering she overcame .. and became an equal partner with her old and returned love ... nice one says i!

This is fresh and protrays todays love, where so many are worth the waiting and so few have that level of personal bond to do so.
