Beginning

We sometimes try to shrug off beginnings and potential things. The strangest, smallest things, can mean the most, though.

Not just another shiny toy

Sitting at the lake

Crying and playing coy

Scared to turn around and see you

My heart would stop

I couldn't always hide in that coffee shop

The rain on the roof went drip drop

In the middle of summer, the heat was nonstop.

I saw you

You saw me

Is this the way

Home is meant to be?

What I was looking for

When I delved straight into the unknown

A new kinda joy

Always thought I'd end up here alone

But you got me

And I got you

A piece of my heart

Living out of me

Maybe they were right

Yes, I was wrong

But now it's my song.

This time I mean the words and always will

Not only am I home

But so are you

Now I know what I have to do

I'm too jaded in my old age to believe in "soulmates" . . . "love at first sight" . . . or "magical beginnings" etc. But your poem is realistic & tentative . . . an authentic journey of taking that great proverbial leap . . . your fresh honest writing makes me believe this situation is for real, even if true & lasting love may still be elusive as ever. I think this is an amazing poem on new beginnings and how the real magic in life sometimes happens on the most unimaginative, humdrum days. You nudge the reader to embrace a new beginning regardless of when and how it comes, It may catch us in unprepared moments but turns out to be the very thing we ever needed in life. This poem has volumes of depth to it. Wonderfully penned! I really like the description, it is so true. But some beginnings never have an end, just repeated beginnings and that could be a reason to fear them as well, but that doesn't mean we should, at least all of the time. Tyfs

A well written and confessed poem with a very apt title. New beginnings can be quite unnerving but if we have courage and take the leap real happiness may be just around the corner.
