Best Friend

I believe that we have two soulmates... your significant other and your best friend.

Best friend

My dearest best friend

I'll be with you until the end

My darling best friend

You are my knight in shining armor

No matter what they say of you, best friend

You saw the good in me

Healed the bad in me

And you set me free

When I felt wicked

You showed me I was misunderstood

There's no such thing as just bad and good

By my side is where you stood

And threw the painful endless nights

I was on the floor giving up

While you kept throwing your fists in a fight

A fight for me

You were my lighthouse

And what a sight to behold

You're my best friend

And yet you're so much more

When I'm weak you pull out your sword

You defend

Till the end

You pulled me out of the red

My heart needed to be mended

And you mended it so I could finally live again

I've always been single, but I've had many male best friends over the years & some were/are married. I agree that being a best friend is a different dynamic than being a spouse & many times both kinds of energy are needed to balance out a person, as described in your poem. Sometimes a spouse can be super supportive, but lots of times it seems to be a bit of a competitive setup between spouses, & then it's great to have someone who is always 100% in your court, but also someone who helps you grow by gently showing where you're mistaken. You describe this best friend as all these things & even more, very effectively (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Lucky if you have a soul mate. So important to have a best friend who will fight your corner and who is there for you when you need it. Some nice poetic expression here. Friendship is incredibly important.

What I feel from this is something I relate to. My friendships have always been stronger than my romantic relationship...more of an ease of sharing...and a closeness from that that isn't matched
in a relationship...maybe because we become afraid that the "honesty would be too much"---as Dan Hill sang.
