Lullaby/Canticle

Lullaby/Canticle

(Now I lay me down to sleep)

Do you dream, dream, dream
Dream a little dream of me?
Do you keep in the real world
Or wander fantasy?

(I pray the Lord my soul to keep)

O'er mental strata
Your mind cavorts at play
And though a shadow lingers
Do not be led astray

(And if i die before I wake)

Keep at peace your weary soul
And rest within your slumber
Do not fret reality
Fill your head with wonder

(I pray the Lord my soul to take)

And let it fill your waking hours
Let your dreams be true
As mine have since the night
I slept and dreamt of you

(Amen)

How did I miss this one? The tone is light and sweet, yet sincere and grounded, as if it is offering peace. I enjoyed it very much. The first stanza captures attention. Thoughtful. Made me think... I'm a realist that enjoys indulging a toe (sometimes foot or even body - if only in my head!) dipped in the pool of fantasy now and then. I think it's good for the soul. :) it does no harm to allow the mind to embrace the imagination and let it wander around in possibilities. Works for me - beats fighting with my thoughts! :)
Great poem, CI
