Why I Drink

Why I Drink

A Poem by CoffeeInfused

The bottom of a bottle

Has a solace, I have found

With ability to loose the strings

That love so tightly wound

Turn up the glass, knock it back

And search forevermore

For that genie in a mason jar

That reaches to my core

To pluck from me my heart

And all its treachery

That turns me to the past

With tortured memory

I drink to lose myself

To hide myself from pain

And to chase away emotion

Until just a shell remains

Oh... I've tried this method - doesn't work but the numbing lasts for a little while. A well penned and moving poem that all of us can relate to.

This is a moving, heartfelt poem, with emotional and powerful imagery. Great job on all the elements.
