The Idea of Me

The Idea of Me

A Poem by CoffeeInfused

Do you really love me?

Or just the idea of me?

As if I were some dream

Or promised fantasy

Do I only serve to soothe

And balm your damaged soul;

Or do I make you feel complete,

Do I fill some missing hole?

Will you only love the idea?

When you see me true

Or will you falter and stumble back

When I don’t live up to you

Seriously, I just had to read this again.
I have a whole boatload I could write on this one... just makes me chuckle. As one who knows - there are no blinders when it comes to a woman loving a man. She sees it ALL and still wonders how the heck she fell. ;) If we could figure it all out by a list of pros and cons - wouldn't that just make everything so much easier!??
Life, and love, don't work that way.

That first stanza, what a kicker. All I know - if you leave her hanging and she's fallen flipping hard - She's been left with nothing more than to wrap the memory of you in any way she sees fit. It could be hard reality that pisses her off or a sugar coated fantasy for her to enjoy... or as one again who knows - she's done all of that and more.

Trust me - women know exactly who the men are that they love, inside and out, probably better than the guy would ever think possible. A woman just would prefer the guy to trust her when she says so... and well, it'd be nice to know if he felt the same - and if not, well - it'd be nice to know that, too.

You really should throw a book together. There's a lot of great writing here that people can relate to :)

Everyone's ideas of love and how to define it are different. To love doesn't mean to ignore or be blind to perceived faults, but to love in spite of them. We may not like who we love sometimes - but real love doesn't go away when the road gets bumpy or the one they care for acts like an idiot. I could go on, but I think you get my point.
Love doesn't get to pick and chose - it just is... IMHO :)
Nice penning

Good poem! Everybody feels this and asks these questions at least once in their lives. Love isn't about standards, but acceptance. If other can't support and be okay with the true you, then the have no business being with you. I say at times like this we shall all just cut the chains and start walking to the closest icecream shop for a temporary fix of happiness. The healing will come in time.

XO - Kate
