Cold Enough to Cross

Cold Enough to Cross

A Poem by CoffeeInfused

We burned our bridge

Late one summer night

I stood still and watched the flames

Until the misty morning light

We stayed upon separate banks

And went about our ways

Each searching for our purpose

Each seeking brighter days

But I keep being drawn

To the place we were together

And find myself reminded

How I thought it’d be forever

The embers died down

The path between us lost

Now I’m left to wait

‘til it’s cold enough to cross

When the frigid winter comes

And to ice the water turns

I’ll venture forth across the place

Where our love so brightly burned

So I stand upon the edge

Waiting for the frost

Biding time until

It’s cold enough to cross

Great write, CI. It will speak to many readers in their own private way, as it does me. Things may not be the same as they were when the chance to cross that ice comes around, but it is worth the try. If your thoughts go there... Then there is always hope. Nicely penned!
