I Am But A Charlatan

I Am But A Charlatan

A Poem by CoffeeInfused

I am but a charlatan

With gilded tongue and silver lies

Though I smile, grinning wide

No mirth does reach my eyes

To every one I spoke

Who though my tales were true

My biggest was to convince myself

That I was over you

Why do you still haunt me

When you wounded me so deep

Why do I still want you

When your heart I couldn’t keep

Why can’t I just let go

And move on with my life

For all I seem to do of late

Is sow more pain and strife

So now, I vow

That I shall stay alone

Until the day you go away

And I can shake you from my bones

I think everyone has run across a person like this at least once in their lives. I hesitate to comment too much on the content as it may very well be a self-reflective write! I know from my own experience, and being associated with someone that I feel fits this bill - their biggest hurdle is from within (IMHO) ... but we all have our vices and must learn how to accept ourselves for who we are and be comfortable in our skin. When we manage that - we no longer become a charlatan and can be more honest to everyone in our lives.
Love the writing and form. It packs a message that is deeper than a quick reading would recognize. Well done, CI. I enjoyed the read and nudge to think on personalities we encounter. :)
