The Other Side of the Counter

The Other Side of the Counter

A Poem by CoffeeInfused
"

A sort=of companion piece to "Diner/Nighthawk", though from a different view

"

This hometown

Lowdown

Never-frown veneer

Is naught but a cheap façade

Designed to tantalize and disguise

True feelings tucked away

Under a plastic smile

And glazed eyes

Hi! Welcome back!

Come again, my friend!”

False niceties

Playing piety

To draw a tip

A flip of a coin

A dollar here

A dollar there

If the customer’s not cheap

And is willing to share

After all

Fair is fair

How doth the busy worker bee

Count down till day’s end

For they are too blind to see

That tomorrow they shall again

And again

And again

Like rats in a maze, some people continue to run the same pattern day in and day out, without truly living life. A sad and profound look into a segment of the population. Well written!
