Diner Thoughts, or Nighthawk ObservationsA Poem by CoffeeInfusedBrooding in a diner Mulling over cups of coffee Listening to dime-store lit-w****s And jaded old men spew Their two-cent spiel, Solving all the world’s problems If only everyone would listen
A cacophony of plates and voices, People’s life choices burning on the grill Floating in the grease A two-bit downtrodden farce of a caucus The regulars and those only passing through But “Come back soon!”
The realities of life pause at the door, Often unable to infect the bubble Of nostalgia and false grandeur Inhabiting this place- A down-home, low-rent Ten-cent redneck hibachi grill Populated by old-timers and no-names, Run by a would-be cordon bleu
A place where the lonesome And those with “nothing better to do” Find solace in each other’s company Mingled cries And sad eyes Debating the president, politics, And last night’s football game And how things aren’t what they used to be But then again, they never stay the same © 2013 CoffeeInfusedReviews
