Last Night I DreamedA Poem by CoffeeInfusedNot quite venting, but not quite a love poem, eitherLast night I dreamed That I was dreaming of you On a darkened, ebony-hued Crystal moon blue shore
The air wet with sound From cicada and water-lapped sand As a windy brass band jangled the trees And left a soft caress upon our cheeks
Your champagne laugh bubbled forth, Teasing tendrils echoing away into the night The soft light of dying sun wrapped in a warm embrace Around your form, a tailored suit and tightly worn
The tender, tantalizing touch of your hand against mine Filled my veins like the finest wine, heart pounding Head-rushing, warm life blushing my cheeks Turning to you only to find sweet release
Suddenly, startling bright light of day Like a stranger’s touch, rough and unkind An intruder, unwanted, yet coming anyway Breaks my reverie, steals me away Binding, chaining, forcing reality
I watched you as you disappeared Dust in the wind, a view from the rear Of a speeding car barreling near Too close to the edge, but going without fear
My days are stolen, toiled, spent But of you, nights filled and kept Dreaming of you with my last waking breath-
And Last night, I dreamed That I was dreaming of you… © 2013 CoffeeInfused |
