How Must I Count the Hours?

How Must I Count the Hours?

A Poem by CoffeeInfused
"

A response poem to "How Shall I Count the Seconds?"

"

How must I count the hours, dear

How must I keep the days

How must I spend the moments

Since we went our separate ways?

How can I keep the seconds

How can I keep the time

When my heart, it still resides

On when you once were mine

My heart has lost its song

My soul has lost its mate

Was it all pre-ordained

Or just cruel twist of fate?

I think the days will pass

In melancholic lurch

Like a candle going out

Inside an empty church

The hours too, shall fall

Adding to my pain

Each one another stone

Adding weight to claim

Each moment without you

Is like another twisting dagger

Or falling down another rung

Of an ever-growing ladder

And if the time should come

When I should cry to you for help

Would you simply whisper “No”

Or save me from myself?
