How Shall I Count the Seconds?A Poem by CoffeeInfusedA love poem to a someone I still care about, even though we're not together anymoreHow shall I count the seconds, dear? How shall I keep the time? Until at last we meet again And feel love’s brilliant shine
How should I count the minutes, dear? How should I pass them by? How can I stand to be away And wait for time to fly?
How must I keep the hours, dear? How must I keep at bay The everpresent loneliness Threatening to swallow me away?
How slowly go the days, my love That pass by in a haze Till we are no longer far apart Forced to go our separate ways
But every thought of you, my love Serves only to build our bond And time seems only pithy Till my heart resumes its song
For you, my love, and eternity Seems only the briefest span Yet I would wait forever Just to hold your hand
My life, my love, You are my whole world And I would wait forever Just to see our love, like a flower, Blossom and unfurl
So how shall I pass The minutes, the hours, the days? With every simple thought of you Time just melts away
A century, an eon I would unflinchingly wait And not a single ounce of love Would waver, would abate Forever would I wait for you, But perhaps, with luck I won’t have to. I love you. © 2013 CoffeeInfused |
