Pondering

Am I the monster in my mirror?
Am I the demon in my view?
The visage makes me ponder
Which is my form true?

Am I the Jekyll or the Hyde;
For what is trapped inside
Says “Let the human die,
And let the monster rise!”

The inner self, the primal beast,
Bound by Psyche's chains
Only seeks its sweet release
To cleanse the human stain

So what is this duality
with which we are imbued?
It only serves to make one question
Am I, or my reflection, the demon in my view?

My doppelganger stares back at me,
Copies my every move,
And many times I ask of it, “Am I,
Or you, the demon in my view?”
