"Alone"

"Alone"

A Poem by Cody Williams

“Alone”

By Cody Williams

Alone

Yes, I am truly alone

My friends have gone and left me

And my heart has turned to stone

I see them sometimes at night

While peaking through their window

They all laugh and exchange smiles

While I sit here weeping and thinking about tomorrow

Some may say that I deserve what I have gotten

Maybe that is true

But alone I truly am

Hopefully I will find somebody soon

It is dark where I’m at

Full Dark, No Stars

The moans and groans of others

Ring through the night

I once spoke to someone

Whom I have never seen before

He was a handsome man

I met him by the door

“Where are we?” I asked him

“Will this ever end?”

The man frowned and shook his head

He said to me “You have no idea, friend”

“We are not in the world where we once were

This world is dark

It is a place where lost lovers dwell

It is rather stark”

“How did I get here?” I asked him

The frown stayed on his face

“You must have done something” He said to me

“You must have made him mad to get him to sentence you to this deep space”

“Whom is it that sent us here?

What have we done to him?”

The man just shrugged and bowed his head

“He is the eater of worlds” He said

The man raised his hand and pointed

At the castle just behind me

“He lives in there and dare I swear

He’s not a good sight to see

I turned around to look at the castle

It was crimson red

The window at the top of it was open

I could see him, there were horns growing from his head

“Is that the devil? Am I in hell?” I asked the stranger

When I turned around to him, he was walking away from me

“No, that is not the devil as you know him; rather, he is much worse.

He is a demon of sorts, the true danger to thee

The man walked away and disappeared into the darkness

I shined the lantern up above me

There I could see in his true form

The creature hiss at me with his forked tongue

His claws scratched the glass

As he motioned for me to come

I waiting for a moment hoping that it would pass

But then I was drawn there like a sailor to rum

The creature sat behind his desk

With the fire behind him on high

“Alone you are! And alone you are sentenced to stay” The creature said to me

I stood and glared at the thing as it looked very grotesque

He pointed out the window into the darkness where all the others roam

He said, “You must go back out there with the others, but still be alone

You will not talk to the others, it is impossible

But you will watch your loved ones move on without you

I felt a tear roll down my face

When I glanced out the window

The creature looked at me and hissed once more

And kicked me out the door

Alone

Yes, I am truly alone

I wonder around in this dark place

Looking for a home
