“So, tell me Mr. Garvey, why did you do it?” Detective Ramsey asked as he reached down and took another sip of coffee before it placed it back on the table in front of him. Mr. Garvey, an older man that was slightly overweight and had a large bushy gray mustache under his nose, sighed and rolled his eyes. “I didn’t! I didn’t do it!” Cameron Garvey tried to explain again. Detective Ramsey rolled his eyes, leaped forward, and grabbed Garvey by the collar of his white button up shirt. Ramsey firmly pressed his nose against Garvey’s and smirked. “Damn it Garvey! Why did you do it? Why did you kill them?” Ramsey shouted. Garvey tried to pull himself away, only to get pulled back again. “I already told you man, I didn’t do it! It was the thing under the stairs! It killed them!” Garvey shouted. Detective Ramsey threw Garvey back in his seat and turned his back to him. He closed his eyes for a moment and placed his hand over his mouth. Ramsey opened them back up and then turned back around to face Garvey. “Fine. What was this thing under the stairs? How did it get there?” Ramsey asked as he sat back down in the chair across from Garvey and lit up a cigarette. Garvey placed his hands on the arms of his chair and pushed himself back up in it. “Okay. I was working that night. It was…lets say…around 8:30, when I first go there. Walked through the front door of the high school and placed my Little Rock High School baseball cap on one of those golden hangers that was hanging on the wall down the hallway. Nothing seemed particularly out of place. Every other light was on in the hallway, that’s they did it at night to keep from break ins. I walked down the hallway when I began to notice a light on in one of the classrooms. This was unusual at that time of night, so I decided to check it out. As turned to the right and entered the room, I noticed a woman sitting at Randal O’Riley’s desk. She had long brown hair and was wearing glasses. The woman was sitting there reading the local newspaper. She looked up at me and took the glasses off her face and laid them on the desk. ‘Mrs. O’Rilley?’ I asked assuming that’s who she was. She nodded. ‘I came here with Randy. We’re leaving soon. He said he had to step out for a moment.’ She replied. I nodded and started to walk away when she said something to me. ‘If you see him out there, tell him to come on! I’m ready to go home!’ She said to me. I looked back at her and smiled. ‘I will miss! You have a good night.’ I told her as I turned back around and walked away. To be honest, I didn’t think much about it. I continued walking down the hallway until I reached the basement stairs. The basement is where they kept the cleaning supplies. I noticed that the door had already been opened which probably meant that somebody had already been down there. I started to walk down the stairs when the fowl odder began to linger in the air. It was kind of like walking through a slaughterhouse, but the smell was somewhat different like it was a different type of meat being slaughtered. Nonetheless, I cupped my hand over my nose and continued on my way down the stairs. The smell worsened as I approached the bottom of the stairs. When I got down on the floor, I noticed that there was blood everywhere. But it wasn’t random. I noticed that it looked like something, or someone, had been stabbed and drug into the dungeon behind the staircase. I reached into my belt and pulled out a large red flashlight that the school issued me and turned it on. I walked over to the area behind the stare case and shined the light into it. Mr. O’Rilley was sitting with his back up against what looked like a giant cardboard box for a TV with his right arm missing. ‘Jesus Crist Mr. O’Rilley! What the hell happened to you?’ I shouted as I ran over to him. He managed to open his eyes and look at me. Mr. O’Rilley reached up, grabbed me by the collar and pulled me close to him. ‘Leave now! Before it gets you! Run!’ He whispered in my ear. ‘What? What is it? What did this to you Mr. O’Rilley?’ I asked him. At that time I started to hear a rumbling noise behind him. It sounded something like a growl. As I slowly moved away the creature ripped its way out of the box.” Garvey said. Detective Ramsey rolled his eyes again and looked over to Garvey. “Okay, tell me, what was this creature? What did it look like?” Ramsey asked. “I don’t know what it was to be honest. But I can tell you what it looked like. It was hunched over. I estimate that it was about seven feet tall…but that can be debated. The creature was covered in fur. It looked like some weird cross between a human and an ape. Kind of like Big Foot from those Slim Jim commercials.” Garvey explained. “So you are telling me that what killed O’Rilleys was Big Foot?” Ramsey asked in a mocking tone. “No. No, it was something more. The thing I remember most about it was its eyes. Its eyes were glowing red and its teeth were at the very least an inch long and were razor sharp. The creature looked at me in the eyes before turning its attention to Mr. O’Rilley. It opened its mouth wide and slowly began to bite down on O’Rilley’s neck.” Garvey said. “What happened next Mr. Garvey? What did you do?” Detective Ramsey asked as he took another sip of coffee. “I did the only thing I could think to do…I ran the hell away. When I reached the top of the stairs, I ran into Mrs. O’Rilley. ‘Jesus Mr. Garvey! What happened to you? You seen as if you had seen a ghost.’ she asked me. I can only imagine the expression of fear she saw on my face. I leaned my back on the wall behind me and slowly slid down to where my butt was sitting on the tile floor. ‘I…I…Mr. O’Rilley…I’ that’s all I could manage to say. Mrs. O’Rilley knelt down beside me and placed a hand on my shoulder. ‘Mr. Garvey, you are not making any sense. Is Mr. O’Rilley down there?’ She asked me. I looked at her and nodded. ‘Yeah, but…but you don’t want to go down there!’ I warned her. She smiled and dismissed it. Mrs. O’Rilley stood to her feet and turned to make her way down the stairs before I grabbed her by an ankle. ‘No! Don’t go down there!’ I shouted. She ignored me and shook herself away before she continued to make her way down the stairs. I managed to pick myself back off of the floor and stand at the top of the stairs. I stood there for a moment and listened. At first there was nothing, but then, there was a scream followed by a loud growl. I knew the creature had gotten her. I quickly backed out of the door and slammed it shut. I carefully made sure it was locked so that the creature would not be able to get out and then I called the police.” Mr. Garvey continued. “When the police arrived, I showed them the basement and they walked down there. The next thing I knew was that they accused me a murder and slapped those damned hand cuffs around my wrists and threw me into the back of a cop car. I tried to explain to them about the creature, but they didn’t buy it. I mean, who would? If I didn’t see it happen, I probably would even believe it was bullshit. But it’s not. I can promise you that!” Garvey concluded. Detective Ramsey once again sighed and rolled his eyes. “Then tell me Mr. Garvey, where did the creature go? How did it get out of there?” Ramsey asked him. “Your bet’s as good as mine! I don’t know. Maybe it escaped somehow…or maybe it’s still down there.” Mr. Garvey said. Detective Ramsey stood up and stormed out of the room. “Did you get him to talk?” Officer little, the Chief of police asked. Ramsey shook his head. “No. The man is f*****g insane! He made up some bullshit story about big foot killing them.” Detective Ramsey said as he looked back at Garvey.
