"The White Rocker"

"The White Rocker"

A Poem by Cody Williams

“The White Rocker”

By Cody Williams

The white rocker remains where it had always been

It sits there on the front porch

Sometimes I can hear it as it rocks back and forth

I peek through the blinds

There is never anybody there

Try to sit in it

I dare you!

I can guarantee that you won’t be in it for long

You’ll place your bottom in the chair

And after a minute, you will find it hard to breathe

What’s in it you ask?

That’s something I’m not quite sure of myself

But there is something

I can always feel its hands wrap around my throat when I’m anywhere near it

I often times hear a knock at the door

When I go to check it

Nobody is ever there

But the white rocker remains

Constantly rocking back and forth with nobody in it.

I'm not much of a poet. if you have read any of my other poems you already know that (this is the reason I write very little poetry). Still, I sometimes tend to jot a few poems down every now and then. Comments are welcome as always...just try your hardest not to laugh.

Oohhh! Very spooky! I self-published a book many years ago (it wasn't good so I don't talk about it) but I eluded to white rockers on a front porch, ghosts and their rocking back and forth although there was no breeze. Rocking chairs can either bring up images of a mother and a baby or supernatural beings -- it's just where your mind wanders. Mine always wanders to the mysterious! Good job, Cody!

It really sounds creepy n tends to pass on the MSG of the poem which is actually to make the audience feel its creepiness! Nice piece !

What you need is an ax and some lighter fluid. That'll fix white rocker's rocker.

Don't be so hard on yourself! Not laughing here, I thought this was creepy.
(You would want peek instead of peak.)
