"The Scare Crow"

"The Scare Crow"

A Poem by Cody Williams

“THE SCARE CROW”

By Cody Williams

Sitting up there in lonely rows
The lonely corn rows
He stands

As the crows dive down
He realizes they're not afraid
He started to frown
Losing the fight he started to fade

Aggravation on his face
He stands up
And puts the crows in their place
As he smashed their heads together he drank out of his blood cup

Ripping their heads off their body
Blood gushing every where
He acted king of snotty
War the birds declared

As he made a blood bath
The birds started backing down
The birds felt his wrath
but still coming from all around

The birds flew off in a flock
With the blood still there
He looked down at his smooch
The one in which he wears

A large shadow then covered the field
He looked up to find a 100 ft tall crow
He died on that field
The crow ended his life with a decapitating blow

Author's Note

Cody Williams
This one is for all my friends who are poets on this site. I write stories. That's my thing. When I told them that I have written a few poems, that intrigued them. This is a poem that I wrote nearly four years ago. It was the first poem I seriously tried to write. I put it away because I never intended for it to see the light of day. So I guess you could call it a "trunk poem."

This is an old piece of work long before my early stories like "Mortality." I realize it's not that good. I am NOT a poet. I am a short story writer. I was just trying something different this time. I just wanted to get that out of the way before you tear up with laughter due to the mediocrity.

This one goes out to all my friends here at WC. Especially the poets! You can leave comments and reviews if you want. I hope you enjoy it!

This is the first piece of your work that I have read and I must say I liked the way it didn't follow rules. I am not a big one for blood and gore in stories (or poems) as I think that a few well placed words can fill you with terror more fully than a bath of blood, you seemed to find a balance. Anyway I thought it was well tempered and well written. Maybe you should keep trying poetry, it suits you. :)

Thanks for reading John! I'm obviously not that much of a poet. I'm more of a prose writer really. B.. read more
Thank you for entering this work in my little contest.
Obviously I can't comment at this stage. But I will return after the contest ends.
Best regards.

You write incredible stories. I've said before, I will not read you before gong to bed...you give me nightmares. When it comes to soul shivering horror stories...Hun, you're da man. Look out, Stephen King...here comes our Cody!!!
The poetry...hmmm....
Not bad. I mean, it's pure "Cody"...
But you're right.
You aren't a poet.

Still...it gave me the creepy crawlies...
