Family Tree

Family Tree

A Poem by Coda

The pear tree withstood the beast of time

Green blanket of fruit below:

Growing since grandfather’s childhood!

Rips and tears from rageful razor claws

The beast callously stood.

Decay depredated the flesh

And tore blood from its rotten core

I mourn my ancestors’ tree,

A hollow shell of what was before.

I lost many tree friends when houses went up next to me. It was one of the worst things that ever happened. Noisy neighbors replaced majestic groups of trees I enjoyed for decades.

You write very well, that's pretty obvious, so there's no need to pile up the accolades. The feeling you leave behind in this can be felt long after the last word.

I always find it sad to see an old tree die. Your descriptions here are vivid as hell.

Great poem. I'll be reading one of your stories soon.

Well, one way to look at it is you made a lot of animals' day by providing their food. :D

oh that is sad, meanwhile I have yet remember how many trees I have actually looked at as I move from one places to another. Some I wonder, will they remember in essence or at all like I would actually rememeber them? this is

remarkably poignant
