respite

respite

A Poem by Coccinellidae

if there’s one thing i’m grateful for

it’s that i met you in march

before it started raining

everything reminds me of you

every

thing

but the rain

that’s still mine

just mine

and each day

as it rolls in

as it does every day in the summer here

i stare at it with anticipation

it’s like respite

coming to wash my heart clean

swirl you off of my soul

my mind

swirl the memories you left on my body like ink

down the drain

drip down droplets of relief

please, pour into me

i stick my tongue out to taste them

desperately

i drink them

wash the sour fermented flavor of you

out of my mouth

and off of my lips

it washes my home in safety

that has nothing to do with you

i still have the rain
