City at the End of The World

City at the End of The World

A Poem by Judas Hammer
"

Sometimes what you love will Kill you.

"

City at the End of the World

I was introduced to you

Two years least a decade

You showed me how beautiful the world was

I fell in love with you

You stroked me with your gentle breezes

Soft winds whispered siren songs in my ear

The sun warmed my face

You accepted me with open arms

I had never had a home

You opened your doors

The porthole to the Pacific

The end of the world as I see her

I walked your streets

Holding conversations with God

Something told me to leave you alone

It was my instincts

You made everything so easy

Everything so Golden

The beauty hypnotized me

I was the only one in the world

To see such things

I never knew you had a secret

The whispers were lies

The warm sun burned me

The walks turned to zombie like strolls

Instead of praying I begged

The ocean turned into a barrier

My screams drown out by waves

My paradise a prison

My dreams ran out of my heads panicked

I learned how to suffer

You taught me pain

I was too far to be saved

Like an abused lover I kept coming back

I defended you

I bought into the chamber of congress

Sales pitch

I witness a dark side

I saw what you did to the ones you loved

Love hurts

Your love kills

Well our time is done

I slapped your hands from my shoulders

I broke your passive aggressive hug

I hate you

I have too

Because I have too

You make me want to stay forever

If I stay

I will die

Home is where the heart feels it is. And hearts aren't too reasonable when it comes to what is really best at times. Home can be heaven and home can be hell, but even when the rose-colored glasses come off, our hearts can still be stuck, and in love with a "devil".
Great poem!

Sometimes Home is a harsh place to reside. I'm so used to being caught up in your stories of places and times that have happened to you that I read this as just that, the first time. Then I re-read it and have a different perspective. Your author's note says it all. ...hard reality crashes in and crushes the mind, body and soul. To be able to rise above that and move forward, not look back, but want to so desperately it eats you inside, must take the strength that not many have. :)

I understand this poem. Some places can steal your mind and heart. The good can overtake the bad. I like the good description of location and danger. I like the strong ending to the outstanding poetry.

Oil and water, sometimes that what it boils down to and you captured that concept well. You started off with a love, we all so have wanted, and the turn of events that can hurt so bad it makes you sick inside, like death. But you know if you stay it is toxic, however you know you want to, but it's not the best thing for you. Wonderful piece.

This is an excellent piece of writing, with exactly the right tone and style to capture the main theme of ambiguity in relationships, feelings are never direct or simple, and this truth is here transported with lyrical talent. Good one.

You capture this feeling the slow spreading dread of lingering so well. all the reasons to stay become reasons to leave. once we step out the door into the freedom wandering i think that is one of the best feelings ever. the journey anew. I think this piece is monumental, amazing.

a good write is something that stays with you, pondering varies aspects of the thought. Lingering to entice you to question your own choices.....
You captured the destructive reality of addiction.

Great stuff. I dig the ambiguity of this. You could be talking about a person, a drug or any number of other things, depending on the perspective of the viewer. Its had a transcendent quality of paradise lost. Good to read something longer from you. Usually I'm left lingering on a small piece, (which has its own unique kind of joy) but got my fill on this one. Bravo! Dug it muchly.

The reason for your death, as you imply, may refer to loving something that you cannot now possess from across the ocean. Perhaps you ought to look again at possession and the experience of the world.....it may entice on account of its nature....but it also induces you to ' take something for it ' that may in that way create a continuity of its experience without loss.

I found this resonant. I have been landlocked in the desert Southwest for 30 years and I despise it.
Beautiful poetry.
